Malaysia Airlines Group (MAG) has ordered up to 60 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, including 30 firm purchases (18 MAX 8 and 12 MAX 10) and 30 options. The MAX 10 will feature lie-flat business class seats for enhanced regional travel. This move aims to modernize MAG’s narrowbody fleet by replacing older 737-800s by 2030. Currently, Malaysia Airlines operates 11 MAX 8s, with 14 more on order, separate from this purchase. The airline also runs 42 Boeing 737-800s and five operated by Firefly. MAG’s order was booked in January, and previously assigned to an unidentified customer. The airline’s first Boeing 737 dates back to the Malaysia-Singapore Airlines era. This upgrade aligns with MAG’s long-term growth strategy.
